A film for schmucks

Awful, awful, awful, awful, awful awfulness. Just f**king awful. Please, for the love of Christ and all that is holy, do not go see this film. It’s not a film. It’s a complete and utter f**king mess. A nasty, stinking, horrible, terrible, festering mess.

But it’s got Steve Carell, he’s funny, right? And Ron Livingston from Office space! And that funny guy from The Hangover! But most disappointingly of all, it’s got Paul Rudd in it. Paul Rudd, who in my book, had yet to put a foot wrong. Clueless, Anchorman, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Role Models, I Love You, Man. Some great, some OK, but all made better by Paul Rudd.

Why, Paul Rudd, did you have to go and ruin everything by starring in this worthless pile of excrement? Why Paul Rudd? Why?

'Was that our careers we just hit?'

Although it has the stupidest, laziest premise for a film I have ever come across – a competition to see who can bring the biggest idiot to dinner – I was willing to go along with it because it’s a comedy, right? Why then am I still waiting 2 hours later for this f**king dinner scene to happen? It is literally the only scene with any hint of potential for being funny, and it lasts around 4 minutes. Right at the end of the film. Not that it matters, this scene could have been written by Matt Groening, Tina Fey, Richard Pryor, The Marx Brothers and John Hughes combined, it still wouldn’t have been funny because at this stage your soul has committed suicide inside your body and you have physically forgot how to laugh.

It is scene after scene of painfully unfunny script between Carell and Rudd, until you know when you get to that stage in a cinema where everyone realizes that nobody has laughed once and the film has already been on for an hour? Even though it feels like two days?

Now as a service to my fellow man, I am going to the cinema first thing tomorrow to stand outside all day and warn people against funding this pox.

PS Steve Carell’s little mice figures are SUPER cute though.

RATING: 1/10
